Though not a genre heavyweight these days, Lunar made waves in the role-playing community in no small part due to this focus on its world and characters. It was an attempt to create a role-playing game with a greater focus on storytelling and worldbuilding than previously seen in the genre, with developers paying particular attention to crafting an elaborate mythology for its setting and characters with rich personalities.
